Day 1

Today started off with a 3:30am wakeup, I had expected to be completely exhausted and needing more sleep.  This however, was not the case.  I was ready to go and completely awake from the moment my alarm went off.  After a quick pack of items that needed to wait until the last minute, we were off to the airport.  Daddy’s flying to my Granna’s today, so it was nice to have him and mom be able to come inside the airport and see me off at security.  Mom’s final words were, “See you in August!”  It quickly hit me like a ton of bricks that I wasn’t going to be home again until I can write a new month’s name when I go to write down the date.  Ironically, I was talking with a friend last night about how excited I get when I can begin writing the name of the next month on anything.  There’s no reason as to why I get excited, I just do.  But it’s funny how that conversation played into today’s thought process.  I think there may be a bit of mixed emotions when I can begin to write “August” this time.

It was time to board the plane for a 6:30am take-off….or so I thought.  Two minutes after pulling out of the gate, our Kevin James look-a-like co-pilot (Mall Cop version, mustache and all) came over the intercom and told us that there was a maintenance issue and that we would have to return to the gate until they figured out the problem.  So after a lot of communication with the maintenance director, they decided to turn the plane completely off in hopes that it would reboot the electrical something or other….bear with me, my technical expertise is severely lacking.  This seemed to fix the problem.  So after an hour of waiting, we were finally able to depart for Houston.  Which puts us there 15 minutes before the earliest connecting flight for someone else on our flight….that’s gonna be a fun scramble to his next gate.

I’ll leave you with a few random thoughts from today that I have jotted down thus far.  They were randomly written down, so I’m sorry if they are, well, random.

-I never care how long the Starbucks line is, I’ll wait in it if it means getting my skinny vanilla latte
-I despise people who walk slow in front of me
-I’m pretty sure flight attendants use more hairspray than Jim Bob Duggar, and that’s saying something
-Angry passengers are super fun…for everyone not having to deal with them
-The co-pilot, Kevin James as he will now be referred to, cannot figure out the time change or how to add 2 hours to the current time to be able to tell when we will arrive to save his life….not really sure I should’ve been that comfortable with my life in the hands of a man who thinks that 7:12am(eastern) + 2 hours = 8:45am(central)
-I forgot my teddy bear on my bed….not cool
-I’m beginning to wish I would’ve brought the Bottle Caps candy I was eating last night....good candy should never go to waste!
