Day 24

It’s weird to think that a week from today I will be back in the US.  I’m excited for the next step in my life, so sometimes it’s a little hard to focus on the here and now.

I went to Cadereyta for church this morning, which is an impoverished area a little over an hour away from Back2Back.  It was an entirely new experience for all of the Americans that we had with us.  The people from this church get absolutely filled with the Holy Spirit and begin crying, yelling, and shaking.  To the Americans this was an absolutely foreign concept (no pun intended), and most of them had to force themselves to stop staring.  Pastor Jose Angel began to tell the Americans, “You may think that we’re crazy, but we can’t stop what’s coming from our hearts.”  It would’ve been easy for us to focus on something else, but there were no words to any songs put up, so this poor group had to sit thru 2 hours of songs that they didn’t know.  Along with that was a 30 minute sermon being translated sentence by sentence.  Needless to say, they were tired and ready to leave by the time the service ended and we had served the church members a meal.

We headed off to my favorite Mexican restaurant, El Pollo Loco, for some chicken and endless nachos.  Then back to campus for bilingual worship night.  It was a great day with many new experiences for everyone involved.
