Day 19

I spent all day today at Casa Hogar Douglas….I seem to be spending a lot of time there.  But that’s ok, because I love every second of being around those kids!  Some of the group members mixed concrete on the ground while I translated the directions from Nacho, our handyman at Douglas.  I was also able to translate questions back to Nacho that the group members had, and later, Nacho and I had a full conversation sharing a little bit about each of our lives.  I love Spanish!!

After the concrete wall all mixed and poured in the forms, we brought the kids back to campus to swim for a little while before dinner time.  While the group was with the kids, I went up to my bed and fell into a really deep sleep for a solid hour and a half.  I’ve heard that thinking and speaking in two languages while in a foreign country is exhausting, but I had no idea quite how exhausting until after that nap!
A few of the interns gathered at house 3 tonight with the Faulkner’s and had a movie night.  After the fruit smoothies and popcorn were ready, we ended the night singing along to “Enchanted.”
