Day 4 - Rocks

Rocks, that is the word of the day.  We had an intern work day today at LTP and worked with rocks all day long.  Our task was to fill in the street a bit more to help with the drainage from the mountains and keep it from pooling in front of the children’s home.  They would later be spreading gravel on top of it.  So we spent 2 hours sifting through a big pile of dirt, old concrete, rocks, and trash, trying to figure out what we could use and what we couldn’t.  That wasn’t our only job today tho, we also had to fill in two 10 foot trenches with big rocks.  So after lunch the big rock truck arrived and we began taking wheel barrel after wheel barrel over to the trenches and dumping them in.  After 3 hours we had put a small dent in it and were ready to head back to campus for a 4th of July cookout.

One of the staff members organized a huge cookout, which included ice cream!  Needless to say, I was a happy girl.  We played some corn hole and volleyball and then everyone headed down to the big palapa for worship time.

Every Monday and Thursday the interns get into our small groups and discuss things that are going on in our lives, what happened during our week, and talk about random topics.  Tonight, after worship, my group shared our testimonies with each other.  It was amazing to hear their stories and backgrounds.  I am so happy that I am here with the people I know I’m supposed to be with this month.

Another aspect of life in Mexico is living in a dorm with 10 other girls.  We live above the white house in a small room and a half where there are 6 bunk beds crammed in.  We share 1 shower, 1 toilet, and 1 sink.  Sound fun?  It’s not.  We all have loooots of hair that falls anywhere we walk, which means there is hair on the floor, in the shower, and in the drains.  I’ve taken it upon myself to clean the toilet every day and the shower every other day.  The shower head is next up on my “to clean” list.  It sprays water in every direction except towards your body and the pressure is so intense in some spots that it’s painful to stand there.  So hopefully that gets fixed so we can actually get ALL the shampoo out of our hair instead of just most of it.

I was able to see the stars tonight.  If you’re close to me, you know that this means a lot.  The thought that you all are looking at the same stars back home is more than comforting.
Hope you all had a happy Independence Day!  Feel free to ask me questions at any time about different aspects of my trip and I’ll do my best to answer them.
