Day 9

Today was more like a regular Saturday here at Back2Back, we did all of the morning cleaning and group prep in about 3 hours.  My job today was to scrub down 5 bathrooms and try to fit in a shower somewhere in my day (which got accomplished, thank goodness).  All of the interns have what’s called a discipleship mentor, so today mine asked if I would like to go off campus to grab some lunch and talk.  We ended up at this great new restaurant in Monterrey called “Super Salads.”  So over paninis and smoothies we talked a lot about our stories and what brought us to Mexico in the first place.  As I listened to the story of how her and her husband were called to Mexico, it was absolutely amazing to me how clear God makes something in your life if that’s what he truly wants you to do.

We rushed back to campus after that so we would both have time to get prepared before this week’s group arrived.  They got here a little after 3pm while all of the interns were in the kitchen cutting up vegetables for pico de gallo and guacamole.  Around 20 minutes after the group arrived, the bus pulled up with all of the kids from Imperio de Amor (a children’s home).  We quickly got the kids changed into swim suits and into the pool to cool off.  They swam for a while with the group and had a great time spraying everyone with the hose and throwing nerf balls at each other.  For our cookout we had salcheechas, which are a sort of hot dog/hamburger/sausage concoction….sounds disgusting, tasted fantastic!

Since the extended worship night last week, I have been trying to be more intentional about reading my Bible and spending more time focusing on God.  It’s easy to do in the environment that I am in, but is difficult when reading my Bible is something that I sort of dread to do.  I remember someone telling me one time that, “the more you read it, the more you’ll want to read it.”  I’ve come to find that this is pretty true, if you know where to start.  That has been my biggest problem, figuring out where to start.  Luckily, Cathy, my discipleship mentor, gave me a study of forgiveness and compassion that has been an excellent start.

On another note, I was reading back through my journal tonight, which is the same one that I started 3 days before my first trip to Back2Back last summer.  What I found was pretty cool!  My journal entry from July 9th of last year was explaining just how ecstatic I was to be arriving in Monterrey for my one week trip with Northview.  It is AMAZING to look back and see the journey that I’ve gone on in the last year.  I can’t wait to see what God will have done by July 9th of next year!
