I went to Casa Hogar Douglas today, no surprise there. I feel that there has to be a reason God keeps putting me at Douglas every week and not any of the other homes. I have no idea what that reason may be, but I’m content with going to Douglas and being able to connect with the same kids while I’m there almost every day. I got to converse a lot with Nacho (our handyman) again, he has quite an awesome testimony that he was able to share with the whole group today in Spanish. We mixed up a TON of concrete today for the stairs that are next to the slab that I helped pour last week. It is so awesome to see the changes on the property each week as new groups come and go.
Last night with little miss Ana was so fun! This little 2 ½ year old Mexican princess and I watched “The Little Mermaid” a time and half completely in Spanish. In Spanish it is called “La Sirenita.” After she refused to fall asleep for over an hour, we decided to go up to the main building to get a fruit smoothie that the jovens (hoe-vens) were making in order to earn money for their mission trip to Cancun. The jovens are the teens who live on campus in one of the six homes that are part of the Hope Program. The Hope Program pays for them to go through high school and college because free public schooling in Mexico ends at 9th grade. After Ana and I played a little bit more we headed back to her house, house 5, where she lives with her mom and dad upstairs and 6 teenage boys downstairs. Each home has house parents that look after their daily needs just like any parent would do, and there are generally 6-8 jovens in each house. We currently have 2 girls homes and 4 boys homes.
We brought the Douglas boys back to have a pool party today, because the Douglas girls were all at Kidzania (an indoor play world for kids) with a dance camp that is staying on campus this week. We made a huge mess with watermelons and then loaded the kids up on the bus to head back to the casa hogar.
I’m turning in early tonight after I get some work done around the dorm and catch up on some other stuff. I slept a little better last night, so hopefully after tonight I’ll be all caught up and ready to go.
